Flyers Reading & Writing Part 4 is a text with 10 gaps. For each gap your child chooses from three options and copies the correct word into the text. It mainly tests A2 grammar — prepositions, pronouns, conjunctions and verb forms — plus careful, accurate copying.

The A2 structures the options pivot on: prepositions of time and place, pronouns, conjunctions, comparative forms, and verb tenses including simple past forms. The three choices usually share a meaning and differ only in grammar, so a child who knows the patterns can often answer without hesitation.
It checks accuracy as well as choice. The word must be copied exactly as printed — a correct choice copied with a spelling slip does not earn the mark. It sounds harsh, but it builds a habit that pays off across the paper, where several other parts also demand exact copying.
It is one of the two longest, at 10 questions, and the most grammar-dense — so children weak on structures feel it most here. But the three-option format is forgiving compared with Part 6, where no options are given at all. Steady grammar practice usually turns Part 4 into a reliable mark-earner.
