How Movers Reading & Writing Part 3 works

    1. Your child reads a short story or text with five gaps.

    2. Under the text sit the candidate words, each with a small picture.

    3. For each gap, they choose the word that fits both the meaning and the sentence.

    4. Finally, they pick the best title for the whole text — that is the sixth question.

    5. A quick re-read of the finished story catches any gap that no longer makes sense.

Tips to prepare for Part 3

    • Fill the easy gaps first; each solved gap makes the story clearer and the harder gaps narrower.

    • Check both meaning and fit: the picture confirms what a word means, but the sentence around the gap decides whether it belongs.

    • Save the title for last and pick the one that covers the whole story — wrong titles usually describe only one detail from it.

    Frequently asked questions

What is the title question at the end of Part 3?

After filling the five gaps, the final question asks your child to choose the best title for the whole text from the options given. It rewards children who understood the story overall rather than gap by gap, so encourage a quick re-read of the completed text before choosing.

Are the missing words shown with pictures?

Yes — each candidate word appears with a small picture, which makes Part 3 friendlier than it first looks. The pictures confirm meaning, but the sentence still has to read correctly, so children should always slot the word in and re-read the whole line before moving on.

How should we practise gapped texts at home?

Read short stories together and pause before predictable words — let your child guess what comes next, then check. Online, the Cloze Test game reproduces the same fill-the-gap reading, and short daily rounds steadily build the vocabulary breadth that Part 3 draws on across its themes.
