Movers Reading & Writing Part 4 is a fill-the-gap text: for each of five gaps, your child chooses the correct word from three options. Unlike Part 3, the choices here test grammar — pronouns, prepositions, verb forms — so it measures whether a child can make sentences work, not just recognise words.
Your child reads a short text with five gaps.
Next to each gap are three word choices — often three forms of the same word, or three small grammar words.
They choose the word that makes the sentence grammatically correct.
Reading the full sentence — before and after the gap — before choosing is the difference between guessing and knowing.
Sort the three options before choosing: are they three verb forms? Three prepositions? Naming the grammar point makes the right pick obvious.
Read the whole sentence, not just the words touching the gap — agreement clues like 'yesterday', 'every day' or 'now' often sit at the other end.
Review the Movers staples: past simple of common verbs, comparatives, 'have to' and 'want to' — Part 4 recycles these constantly.
Purpose-built for Part 4: choose the right grammar word for each gap. Free to start; the full exercise bank needs an upgrade.
More gap-fill mileage in full texts, reinforcing the read-the-whole-sentence habit Part 4 rewards.
Mainly grammar. The three options for each gap are usually the same kind of word in different forms — go, goes, going — or small function words like pronouns, prepositions and conjunctions. A child can know every content word in the text and still lose marks if verb forms are shaky.
The Movers grammar list covers A1 essentials: present simple and continuous, past simple of common verbs, comparatives and superlatives, 'have to', 'want to', and basic adverbs and prepositions of time and place. Part 4 samples these — so a little targeted grammar work moves this score quickly.
Five — one for each gap, out of 35 questions across the whole Reading & Writing paper. No single part makes or breaks the result, but Part 4 is the purest grammar check in the Movers test, so it is a useful early signal of whether grammar needs attention before Flyers.
